Author Pat Clarke on her writing journey

February 10th, 2023

I grew up in Sydney and had no experience of the Australian bush or its inhabitants until my family moved to the country and purchased a rural property on the edge of the Goonoo Forest, in Dubbo, NSW. The wide variety of native fauna and flora of the Dubbo area and the amazing birds and animals that abound in the Australian bush constantly fill me with wonder.

My writing style?

I don’t know if I have a style.

My new title - In Search of the Goonoobee

This story is about a magic two-headed emu.  I have no control over the character, where it is headed or will end up. It seems to have a life of its own.

Who has influenced me most in my writing?
ENID BLYTON

As a child I loved the Enid Blyton stories about ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ and I made up stories for my grandchildren about an Australian ‘magic forest’.

IfI could take one book to a desert island, what would it be?
