We had a chat to the wonderful Harriet Cuming about her newest picture book, Far Away Granny!

Far Away Granny is A heart-warming tale, full of imagination, about a Granny who lives far away. Sometimes, it can be hard when our loved ones live so far away and we have to talk to them through video chat, but what happens when they slip through the phone screen?

Where did the inspiration for Far Away Granny come from?
I wrote Far Away Granny because my own grandchildren live in London. My heart was breaking when I couldn't see them during the Covid-19 boarder closures.

What was your favourite book as a child?
One of my favourite books as a child was The Rabbits' Wedding by Garath Williams.

Do you have a favourite book right now?
My favourite book is usually the one I am reading! At the moment it is The Fellowship: The Literary Lives of the the Inklings by Philip and Carol Zaleski.

What do you enjoy most about writing picture books?
I enjoy writing for the fun of them!

What do you like to write about?
I like to write about ANYTHING that inspires me at a particular time.

What are your hobbies outside of writing?
I like to paint with watercolours and acrylics, read and do tapestry.

What would you like young readers and their caregivers to take away when they read Far Away Granny?
I would like young readers and their grandparents to be encouraged and to know they are never really far apart, spiritually speaking.

Thank you Harriet for taking the time to answer our curious questions!

Far Away Granny

When Granny lives far, far away, there are lots of ways her granddaughter can keep in touch with her. But what happens when her granddaughter fantastically slips through the screen? A heart-warming tale, full of imagination, which lets everybody know that Granny is never really far away.
