Say Hello to Cheeky Charlie and it's creator - LIZ OXENBURY!
February 19th, 2023What was the inspiration for your book?
When my kids were in school, they got bullied and were subjected to peer group pressure. My kids were distraught by this and I was wondering how I can help to solve this unsocial behaviour. I also had a character I had created, Cheeky Charlie, many years ago for a children’s fashion label. So, I decided to combine the two, as I wanted to write a book to address this problem and aim it at young kids. That’s why I wrote my book Cheeky Charlie Learns his Lesson is aimed to educate kids about the risks of giving into peer group pressure and the importance of friendship.
When do you write?
I love to write during the day, when I am home on my own. Covid gave me the chance to commit to my writing.
Do you have a favourite place to write?
Do you have a favourite place to write?
Yes, I love to write sitting on my couch in the living room which overlooks a beautiful lake and surrounding gardens…it’s very peaceful.

What is next for you?
Cheeky Charlie is a mascot, my book is about him, I want him to come to schools, libraries and childcare Centre’s and sit beside me while I read my book to children.
I have also started a monthly subscription where children receive a letter in the letterbox featuring Charlie travelling around the world, Charlie is teaching children all about different places, around the world. It is like the children are on a journey with Charlie and learning about the world in a fun way.
