Author Niraj Lal

Dr Niraj (Nij) Lal graduated with a PhD in physics from the University of Cambridge as a Gates Scholar in 2012 and was named one of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Top 5 Scientists Under 40 in 2016 for his research on solar cell nanophotonics. He’s the current host of the children’s science podcast ‘Imagine This’ for ABC Kids Listen, presenter of Sciencey on ABC iView, Visiting Fellow with the Australian National University Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems, a Principal Analyst with the Australian Energy Market Operator, and an Australian Expert for the International Energy Agency photovoltaics program. Nij’s former jobs include being a bicycle courier in Perth, a long-line tuna fishing-boat deckhand out of Cairns, a cattle farmhand in Dorrigo, and a Renewable Energy Lecturer at the ANU. He regularly appears on telly and radio to talk science (he’s a bit obsessed). Henry is his second children’s book to gently introduce physics concepts to little ones. Nij lives in Melbourne, Australia with his partner Sally and two kids Ash and Ella.
